Our
opening Keynote Speaker will be Libby Sartain
speaking on "The
New Consumer of Work"
Business competes for talent today in a free global marketplace
in which traditional definitions of job and employee are increasingly
outmoded. As a direct result, HR leaders must also change traditional
ways of working in order to maintain their central role in the organization
of the future.
While many influences are bringing about this change, perhaps the
most important is the way in which the worker now approaches and
engages with work. Workers today use the sensibilities of consumers
to search for overall work experiences that not only provide a sense
of connection and fulfillment, but also a part of their personal
brands.
Libby’s keynote has an essential message for all HR leaders:
You can guide your organization through this competitive marketplace
by treating your worker pool more like consumers and less like employees.
Think of each phase in the worker life cycle as a branded experience
and design your HR programming to deliver this experience. Workers
will become more engaged and your organization will be prepared
for the impending brain drain likely to occur when the economy turns
around and disengaged workers head for more meaningful work.
This talk will challenge audience members to:
• Establish a team at the top with Marketing, Communications and Business
operations to create the right worker experience at each stage of
the employment life cycle
• Consider the both needs of the business and sensibilities of workers
to meet changing business requirements
• Become an organization that creates strong connections with its
prospective talent pool and a reputation for providing a great worker
experience.
Our
Masters Series Speaker is Patti Ayars,
Turning Point Consulting speaking on "Leading Transformational
Change."
Because people
drive the success of an organization, experienced HR professionals
know that they need to be on the leading edge of driving change
in their organization. Making incremental changes is not enough
to be competitive in industries where the rules are being re-written,
and without HR’s leadership, the changes made are often
only incremental. The culture change that is required to achieve
the desired results never occurs without HR playing a leading
role!
Leaders that continuously achieve extraordinary results understand
that many of the changes they need to drive are transformational,
they require a change in your culture. Highly effective HR leaders
know the difference between incremental and transformational change,
they know how to lead both kinds of change and they know what it
takes to be an effective transformational change leader. In this
session Patti will use practical examples to explain the difference
between incremental and transformational change and will provide
practical tools that you can use to increase your ability to lead
successful change in the culture of your organization.
For the past
20 years Patti Ayars has been leading and coaching others on how
to lead
transformational change. Prior to founding
Turning Point Consulting Patti was the Senior Vice President,
Human Resources for Roche Diagnostics Corporation where she lead
the transformation
of the culture of the organization. She also spent 21 years with
Monsanto Company in global and domestic strategic human resources,
organization development and mergers & acquisitions positions.
Patti has been associated
with SHRM since 1978 when SHRM was ASPA (the American Society
for Personnel Administration). In 1979 Patti
won the Outstanding Student Award. She was the first undergraduate
student to win this award. In 1980 she won the first ASPA Student
Research Award with her research project entitled, “Managers’ Perceptions
of Personnel: A Case Study.” More recently, for her leadership
in tackling some of the most challenging strategic issues in the
profession, in 2005 Patti was named one of the 25 most powerful
women in HR by HR Executive magazine. Patti is also the author of
two books on leading change, Mastering Momentum, which she co-authored
with Michael Vinitsky, and The Art of Leading Transformational Change
which was released last fall. Patti is an HR professional that knows
how to effectively utilize HR as a driver of change and business
results.
Our
General Session Speaker is Christopher Schrader, Director – Government
Affairs for the Indiana State Council of SHRM, with a Legislative
Summit.
Federal government
activism is at a level not seen since the 1970's. The stated desire,
and demonstrated willingness of President Obama to act in the
private business sphere, coupled with the legislative majorities
need to pass landmark legislation make this and the next session
of Congress of paramount importance to HR professionals. The days
of Congress moving at a glacial pace are over. Bills that would
have taken months, or even years in the past now race through
in a matter of weeks. Attend this lively and fast-paced presentation
to learn what's happening in Washington DC and the Indiana State
House.
Finally
our closing Keynote Speaker on Wednesday is Captain
D. Mike Abrashoff with his topic of "Grassroots Leadership."
It’s
Your Ship
When Mike Abrashoff
took command of the USS Benfold, the ship’s
performance ranked at rock-bottom. Worse -- the crew didn’t
feel safe should they be called into action. Determined to improve
performance, but without the power to hire, fire or promote personnel,
Abrashoff focused on what he could change: the ship’s culture.
He broke from the traditional command-and-control leadership style
and sought to see the ship from the eyes of his crew-creating a
guiding set of principles he calls Grassroots Leadership. When
crew members asked Abrashoff to solve a problem, his response became, “It’s
your ship-what would you do?” The result was an empowered
and engaged team that turned the ship into the Navy’s top
performer.
People at every level
in business relate to Abrashoff’s
dilemma: being held accountable for results without having the
ability to make the rules. As Abrashoff shares the methods he used
to create successful change within the confines of strict military
regulations, audiences come away with dozens of practical and actionable
ideas to make a difference in their own organizations. This first-hand
account of the journey to organizational excellence is as invaluable
as it will be memorable.
